For a circular pool, use 3.142 × radius × radius × average water depth in metres × 1,000. The radius is half the diameter.
For a top-up, use only the depth of water missing. An 8 × 4 metre pool missing 10 cm (0.1 metre) of water needs roughly 3,200 litres. Steps, sloping floors and other shapes change the amount, so confirm your estimate with your pool operator before arranging delivery.
